Ready-mix concrete plant, Lubumbashi
Our batching plant in Lubumbashi, so a pour is planned around the programme rather than around a supplier.
The company
From the first client brief to long-term maintenance, A1 delivers the entire build, with every specialist trade under one roof.
The film
A short film on who we are and what we build.
Our story
A-One Builders is the largest and most experienced construction company in the Democratic Republic of Congo, delivering complex residential, commercial, institutional and hospitality projects from concept to completion.
Since 2017 we have delivered more than 150 projects with a team of around 4,500 people, landmark buildings that have reshaped the skylines of Kolwezi and Lubumbashi.
We work with clients from the inception of a project: understanding their needs, then crafting bespoke projects that meet their investment or end-user objectives. Our clients come back, repeat business built on a track record of delivering complex projects on time and to budget.
Capabilities
The capabilities we bring to every project, most of them in-house.
Planning, engineering, procurement and mobilisation through to completion.
One accountable team from the first client brief to handover.
Engineer, procure and construct under a single, accountable contract.
Steel fabrication, carpentry, masonry, MEP, façade and finishing under one roof.
A dedicated QA team and full-time HSE team on every site; QMS review towards ISO.
Property maintenance, repairs, AMC, servicing and upkeep to ensure efficient day-to-day operations.
Property leasing, tenant sourcing, sales and management of residential and commercial properties.
Strategic real estate investment partnerships focused on creating long-term value and building wealth.
A dedicated quality-control team and a full-time safety manager and team work on every site. Our QMS is under review towards ISO accreditation.
In-house
Being in-house only counts if you own the plant. A1 batches its own ready-mix concrete, casts its own bricks and paver blocks, tests what goes into them in its own laboratory, and holds its own stock, all close to the sites they serve.
Partners
Government departments and institutions, international and local companies, and the banks behind the projects. Our track record is built on relationships that come back.
Materials
What goes into a building matters as much as who builds it. A1 specifies and stocks established international brands across every trade, from cement and boards to sanitaryware, tiles, electrical systems and appliances.
Craft
Craftsmanship at A1 means producing exceptional, bespoke work that cannot easily be replicated, our in-house steel and wood craftsmen are central to that.
Skills are passed on. Senior site personnel actively train new team members, and we collaborate with training institutes and run internships to grow the next generation of builders.
Safety
A full-time safety manager and team work on every A1 site. Health & Safety Week takes that further: the whole workforce stops for drills, toolbox talks and site inspections.
People
Skills are passed on at A1. Alongside mentoring on site, technical and safety sessions are run in our own training room for site teams, engineers and supervisors.
On the ground
We understand what it takes to build here, and we design for it.
Our designs account for the rainy season and limited infrastructure, every project is self-sufficient in water, sanitation and power.
Local and international architects and technical teams, with finishes benchmarked to international standards.
Bricks are produced locally, close to our sites, to cut transport and reduce the carbon footprint.

Community
Social development
Supporting the people who build with us goes beyond the site. Sport and community activity are part of life at A1.
