Project overview

The Mbuji-Mayi Airport Modernization Project is a flagship infrastructure initiative designed to completely de-isolate the Kasaï-Oriental region. While currently operating as a crucial hub for domestic flights, the airport is undergoing a massive state-funded structural overhaul to elevate it to strict international aviation standards. Following the successful modernization and expansion of the runway to safely host larger commercial jets like the Airbus A320, active phase-two construction continues on a brand-new passenger terminal, a next-generation control tower, and advanced safety infrastructure to seamlessly connect Mbuji-Mayi to the global stage.
